I have never seen so many cops in one place in my life. It literally looked like every cop in the city was in Washington Heights this past Saturday, all on the strength of one man. As a matter of fact, as I was making my ascent up 181st street on Broadway, en route to the much anticipated first 40 Oz Bounce of the season, I distinctly heard a cop say over the loud speaker of his police cruiser “the 40 Oz Bounce has been cancelled.” Say it ain’t so, and it was cancelled, well sort of. While the actual event didn’t take place, the fact that this dude 40 Oz Van and his crew can round up thousands of people speaks volumes on the strength and resiliency of the 40 Oz brand. No lie, NYPD even arranged for the A train to bypass 181st street in both directions. I can imagine one of the upper level Police brass saying, ala Malcolm X, “no one man should have all that power.” Like I have said in the past, 40 Oz Van is a real life Cyrus from the Warriors movie, so it is only fitting that we once again end this recap with the following words from Cyrus, “I say, the future is ours… if you can count! Can you dig it?”
Aside from the fear of flying, culture shock probably has to be one of the most common feelings to strike the average international traveler. Some of us, however, the braver ones, embrace the surprise, exchanging most of that currency of shock for opportunity–the opportunity to see and experience new things. I like to wishfully think that I’m cut from a segment of the latter cloth. But even if I’m not ultimately, at least I’ve got some new pics from DR to pretend with. Enjoy!
Rooftop shot from Los Jardines Del Ozama, STO.
Caught this little guy doing his thing on another roof.
Wondered what he was up to.
Turns out he was flying his kite right before an oncoming storm!
Here’s to a befitting launch to the Memorial Day weekend! Check out Zach Galifianakis in The Hangover 2 (in theaters today) as he rocks Republica Eyewear’s Mr. Hayes limited edition frames – a Republica x Peralta Project x SOA collabo.
