We cannot recommend this show enough, stop by the Rio Gallery (Penthouse -10 Fort Washington Ave) sometime before September 6th and see what everyone is buzzing about. The photographers featured in the exhibit are my good friend Jay Franco as well as Jonathan Guerrero, Magdiel Baez and Tomas De Lo Santos.

There is something happening here. What you are witnessing, ladies and gentlemen, is the blooming of an arts movement that has been growing for some time now but is starting to coalesce into a full-blown juggernaut. That energy, verve and spirit was in full expression at the NYC Over & Under Photo exhibit this past Saturday at the Rio Gallery. The photographers featured were my good friend Jay Franco as well as Jonathan Guerrero, Magdiel Baez and Tomas De Lo Santos.
What is truly amazing about the exhibit is that even though it was a group photo exhibit there was a cohesiveness that permeated the entire project. First of all, the space, Rio Gallery on Fort Washington Ave, is the perfect venue with a rooftop that added to the ambiance of the event. Secondly, I have been a fan of Jay Franco’s work for a while and to see it his eye-popping images that practically crackle with color and candor all displayed in one place was a feast for the eyes. This exhibit dramatically documents the real New York City, in all its griminess and glory, squalor and splendor.
I cannot recommend this show more, stop by the Rio Gallery sometime before September 6th and see what everyone is buzzing about. Remember, “Spread love it’s the Uptown way!”

Q. Who is Jay Franco?
A. Jay franco is the son of an artist and hard working mother who inspired a lot of my artistic ways of thinking. Jf is just a guy with a cam and a great passion for the arts and is trying to tell a story with every picture he takes.

Q. What does photography mean to you?
A. Photography means life to me. Life for different reasons because it turned my dream job/hobby into my career, life because I take pleasure in documenting others lives and telling a story in still motion.

Q. What are some of the things you love about living Uptown?
A. I Love everything about uptown. How alive it is at all times. The people that live here, how every corner has a grocery store and a barbershop hahaha but just the feeling of knowing that everyone is like family. I grew up here so Washington Heights will always be a part of my life no matter where I go.
Q. What do you like about shooting Uptown?
A. Uptown was where I first started my career as a photographer. The things you see Uptown everyday needs to be documented because anyone that’s not from this part of town will never believe the stories one has to share. I love the subways, the parks, the buildings and anything that reminds me of where I came from. The shape and form of every female is unique and I try to capture everyone’s strengths and beauty in my photography.
